Choosing the right box or mailer
Pick packaging that protects your product without paying to ship air.

The right packaging keeps products safe and keeps your postage low. A good rule of thumb: use the smallest container that leaves about 2 inches of cushioning around fragile items, and no extra room at all for soft goods.
Quick guide
| Product | Best packaging | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Apparel, textiles | Poly mailer | Light, waterproof, tiny dimensions |
| Books, flat goods | Rigid mailer or bubble mailer | Prevents bent corners |
| Fragile items | Corrugated box with padding | Crush protection |
| Heavy, small items | USPS Flat Rate box | Weight doesn't change the price |
Free USPS Priority Mail boxes are a great option, but they can only be used for Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express — not Ground Advantage. See free USPS supplies for details.
