Placeholder legal copy. This page is a prototype draft written in plain language and has not been reviewed by counsel. It is not a binding agreement and must be reviewed by a lawyer before launch.

01Overview

This policy explains what information Octoship collects, why, and what control you have over it. It applies to our website, shipping panel and API.

The short version: we collect what we need to ship your packages, we don't sell it, and you can ask us to delete it.

02Information we collect

  • Account info: your name, email, business name, return address and password (stored hashed).
  • Shipping data: recipient names, addresses, phone numbers, package contents and values for customs, and tracking events.
  • Payment info: handled by our payment processor. We see the card brand and last four digits, not the full number.
  • Store data: when you connect a store, the orders and products needed to create labels.
  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, device and browser info, and logs that help us keep things running.

03How we use it

  • To buy labels, validate addresses and send shipment data to carriers.
  • To import orders and write tracking back to your connected stores.
  • To send tracking emails to your customers, if you turn them on.
  • To provide support, prevent fraud, and keep the Service secure.
  • To understand what's working and improve the product.
  • To send product updates and the Ship Log newsletter, if you opt in.

04Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information or your customers' information. We share data only as needed to run the Service:

  • Carriers (like USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL Express) receive shipment details so they can deliver packages.
  • Customs authorities in the destination country receive the customs information for international shipments, as the law requires. This means some data travels outside your country.
  • Service providers such as hosting, payments, email delivery and support tools, under contracts that limit their use of the data.
  • Connected platforms you authorize, like your Shopify or Etsy store.
  • Authorities, when required by law or to protect people's safety.

05Your customers' data

When you ship to your customers, you're responsible for their data and we process it on your behalf. We use recipient information only to create, deliver and track their shipments.

06Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and a small amount of analytics to understand how the site is used. We don't use third-party advertising cookies. The only cookies we really want are the chocolate-chip kind.

07How long we keep it

We keep account data while your account is open. Shipping and payment records are kept for as long as carriers, tax rules and accounting require, typically up to seven years. After that, we delete or anonymize them.

08Security

We encrypt data in transit and at rest, limit employee access to what's needed for their job, and review access regularly. No system is perfectly secure, so if something goes wrong we'll notify you as required by law.

09Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to certain uses. You can do most of this from Settings, or email us and we'll help.

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time. We'll still send important account and shipping messages.

10Children

Octoship is for businesses and adults. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 16.

11Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll notify you by email or in the app before they take effect, and update the date at the top.
